The current Ubuntu-version of hplip should be mustdk than new enough. The Mustek BearPaw and scanners are supported by the plustek backend. I have received a reasonably new B-size scanner, which shows up in lsusb as: But these file permissions in Linux defeat me every time.

I’ve now moved the file to the directory I earlier indicated, but now I need to create a sub-directory and can’t for the same reason I experienced earlier in copying the file – file permissions. And how do I get Linux to accept actions without recourse to these constant file permissions? I’ve found the file online and it is saved to my ‘Downloads’ folder. OK, Lecture over OK, lets say your file is called myfile.

July 25, Your scanner will then work. The Mustek is directly plugged into a USB post on this machine, per lsusb that i posted, and the OS knows that it’s there, but XSane and the scanner software I have does not. Now the pclos gnomes acanner have to try and figure out why liinux was fubar. I’ve tried the su command to make the entries given in the earlier reply -many thanks againbut I still find myself locked out mmustek my own computer unless I use the command line it’s been a while since I needed to do this.

Anyway, you get my point. I do have a Linux for Dummies book as required reading, but these file permissions are really not explained except in outline. For a good explanation of why you shouldn’t log on as root, see here: But I still need to do some more setting up with it.
I am slowly getting up to speed in Terminal, but it is a tortuous process. If you own a Mustek or Trust scanner other linyx the ones listed above that works with this backend, please let me know this by sending the scanner’s exact model name and the USB vendor and device ids e.

My Mustek gave excellent results. Thanks now the scanner worked, what i did is copy the PS1Gfw.
